Health Supplements. My current go-to’s.
Aside from more performance based supplements that I take, (another post on those) - I also take health based supplements. I've always believed that we can get a lot of nutrients from a well rounded diet - and although true in some cases, we aren't consistent with what we eat every day, so for me these are a bit of a back up and consistency to ensuring I have some goodness going in most days.
I’ll list my current stack with a few benefits that I’ve personally noticed, but for a full breakdown of how they can benefit your health, visit www.superbotanic.com for a real in detail look into their products (I am not sponsored or earn commission or anything, they are just a brand I’ve been lucky enough to find that have really enhanced my wellbeing).
Curcumin: I take this for the inflammatory properties and have genuinely noticed a difference in the aches in my hand joints after doing so much massage. I used to have pain, and I don’t anymore.
Moringa: its properties help with vitality, energy and endurance. I feel I have good energy levels throughout the day and rarely have crashes or dips.
Ashwagandha: known for helping to lower stress and improve sleep quality. I do feel my sleep quality has improved. Sometimes if I don’t sleep long, I still feel I have a good, deep sleep. And emotionally, I rarely have times where I’m super down or low and if I am it doesn’t last long. I feel pretty balanced every day to be honest. I think this has helped with my menstrual cycle - I honestly rarely get any PMS, even down to zero cramps.
Berberine: I only recently started taking this, so I am not 100% of the benefits personally apart from feeling like I don’t tend to really have blood sugar dips in the day (or if I do, I don’t notice!). Berberine is known for helping to regulate blood sugar, so that makes sense. It also helps with digestive disorders - and I have been taking it alongside high doses of Ferrous Sulphate (Iron) which is known to disrupt the digestive system in varying ways - but again, I haven’t really had any problems!
Iron (not from SuperBotanic): I currently take 400-600mg of Ferrous Sulphate per day, based on my low Iron levels. After suffering a health issue six months ago which resulted in blood loss, it depleted my levels. I experienced lots of symptoms of anaemia, and after speaking with female clients (both massage and PT) about how they feel in general, these symptoms are continuously coming up - and then confirmed as anaemia after they have had a blood test. Women are much more prone to being anaemic and even more so if you are active. I really recommend getting checked out if you do experience symptoms of anaemia - because if you think to yourself “I’m always tired/need a nap/legs are aching/get out of breath quick/dizzy/headaches” - yes it could be anything, but get checked. You’re the only one in control of your health and your biggest advocate.
Why should you care where you buy your supplements from?
Because they differ in how they are made. I chose Super Botanic because they make their products to the highest, most pure standard. No bulking agents included. They source their products ethically and organically and honestly you will notice the difference. You might pay more than for a generic brand - or even a well known and heavily advertised brand - but it’s because you’re paying for a better product which in turn means you’re not putting unknown products into your body.
You don’t HAVE to take supplements. It’s good to start with the basics of movement and a fairly good diet. Supplements are just that - a supplement to your diet/lifestyle. I personally feel better on these and they work for me - but they might not for you. This is all from personal experience, and more of a ‘this is what I take and how they work for me’ kinda post. If it inspires you to try them, cool! You should know more than anyone what you might need or how you want to benefit.
